Cash on delivery guide for online stores in Egypt
Cash on delivery is a very common way to pay in Egypt, and it's also the biggest source of merchant headaches: late cash, returned orders, and the risk of losing goods or money. This guide covers how to reduce those risks.
1. Confirm the order before it ships
A confirmation call or message before shipping cuts returns. Check the address, the amount and when the customer will be available.
2. Know where your money is at every moment
Ask your carrier: who holds the cash? When does it reach me? What happens if the courier is late handing it over? The answer should be clear and written.
3. Keep the goods covered
The biggest COD risk is goods leaving with nobody standing behind them. On Runners the order value is reserved from the courier's wallet before pickup, so the order is covered until delivery.
4. Price returns in from day one
Returns are a normal part of the business. Know their cost before you start and include it in your product pricing.
5. Withdraw regularly
Don't let your balance pile up. Pick a fixed day to withdraw and reconcile the orders that were collected.
